Invisalign Q&A
What is Invisalign®?
Invisalign® is a type of orthodontic treatment that improves the alignment of your teeth and jaw with a series of clear, nearly invisible plastic mouthpieces. Each mouthpiece puts mild pressure on your teeth, gradually moving them into the optimal position.
Invisalign doesn’t require rubber bands, brackets, or wires. That allows for a more discreet form of orthodontic treatment than traditional braces. Most people finish wearing their aligners in 6-12* months. Once treatment is complete, you transition to a custom retainer.
What types of issues can Invisalign correct?
Dr. Casey typically recommends Invisalign to correct mild and moderate alignment issues, including:
- Spaces between teeth
- Crooked or overlapping teeth
- Crossbite
- Overbite
- Underbite
- Misaligned or malpositioned jaw
You might also benefit from Invisalign if your teeth are crowded and difficult to keep clean.
What does Invisalign treatment involve?
Before recommending Invisalign, Dr. Casey conducts an oral exam and reviews your dental health history. If you have crooked or malpositioned teeth, she takes digital impressions with an intraoral scanner and uploads your impressions to a computer program.
Dr. Casey uses the program to develop a treatment blueprint that maps the movements of your teeth and jaw. After explaining and finalizing the plan, she sends your impressions to a dental lab that designs and manufactures your aligners.
Throughout treatment, you visit the office every one or two weeks and change into a new pair. To ensure optimal results, wear your aligners for 20-22 hours a day, only removing them to brush and floss or to eat.
What other treatments can improve my smile’s appearance?
In addition to Invisalign, Dr. Casey offers teeth whitening. Teeth whitening is a type of cosmetic dentistry that uses hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide to cut through stains and discoloration, making your teeth appear healthier and more attractive.
Dr. Casey offers two types of teeth whitening treatment, including take-home teeth whitening trays and in-office chairside teeth whitening. The type that will most benefit you depends on the severity of the stains and your lifestyle.
Dr. Casey keeps teeth whitening and Invisalign treatment affordable so you can smile more confidently on a budget.
